Sustainability

We are present in all the Italian territory and this guarantees an excellent logistic service and fast availability, allowing moreover to minimize the environmental impact tied to the transport of material.

We work in a sustainable way with respect to the impact on the context that surrounds us and the certifications demonstrate our commitment.

Respecting the area in which we operate, we promote initiatives to support the environment and the communities that live near our plants.

Environmental Policy

UNICALCE S.p.A. considers environmental protection and sustainable development of strategic importance for its activities and considers compliance with legal obligations as an imperative prerequisite for all its activities.

It is therefore committed to:

  • progressively implement within the entire organization an Environmental Management System certified according to the UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 standard and extend EMAS registration to all operational sites with the goal of identifying, evaluating and monitoring the environmental features interrelated to its activities and services, ensuring the observance of compliance obligations and pursuing continuous improvement of its environmental performance;
  • undertake an evaluation of processes and connected environmental elements by identifying the appropriate metrics, to then evaluate risks and related opportunities;
  • check and, if it’s possible, mitigate environmental impacts by applying the best available technologies for the design and conversion of production plants;
  • manage production plants in order to improve, as much as possible, performance related with environmental matters and prevent pollution, by also considering the needs and expectations of stakeholders;
  • Optimize the use of natural resources, by particularly favouring the use of renewable energy sources;
  • Plan and manage its quarry activities so to protect local biodiversity and ecosystems;
  • train staff on environmental issues, pursuing the required and committed cooperation;
  • raise awareness and qualify suppliers and contractors and provide them with certification, with particular reference to the environmental protection and compliance with environmental standards;
  • communicate to stakeholders the results obtained in the field of environmental protection and performance of its EMAS registered sites.

Our initiatives

Unicalce is aware that doing good business means respecting the urban and social infrastructure that allows us to work and grow. This is why we always dedicate attention to the communities living near our plants, with specific focus on monitoring and limiting the environmental impact of our activities, but also carrying out an environment restoration program whenever the mining activity for that specific extraction site, is concluded.

In addition, we support our young people through sport and school with a whole range of activities.

We promote and support local and national initiatives aimed at enhancing the best practice in the field of the extractive industry.

Schools and Universities

Aware of the importance of education and knowledge of the world of science and work, Unicalce organizes visits to its plants and classroom lessons for elementary, middle and high school students in the territories where it is present.

Research

Unicalce develops national and international training and research projects with the most important Italian universities (eg Politecnico di Milano, University of Bologna).

Training

The goal of Unicalce's training projects is to enhance the skills and professional opportunities that the modern mining industry offers to young people.
